If you are coming to stay in London there are really only three ways of doing so.
First, you can stay in a hotel. Second, you can stay with a relative or friend – assuming you have one who lives in London. Third, you can rent an apartment and make it your “own” home for the duration of your stay.
Now it is true that the majority of visitors to London (all 19 million of them every year!) don’t have a relative or friend who lives in the city, although a few do. Even so, that relative or friend may not have enough in the way of spare bedrooms to accommodate you and your family, or even just one spare room if you are visiting on your own. That leaves most people with the option of staying in a hotel – because there is nowhere else to stay, is there?
Well, that is what the majority of London visitors think, but the fact is that there are property owners in central London – and we do mean right in the centre – who let serviced apartments in London to visitors for both long and short term lets. Yes, you can rent an apartment in Mayfair in the West End of London, and you can’t get more central than that. Everything is within walking distance, which is just as well because the traffic in the centre of the city is horrific. London is not alone in that respect because it is the same in all capital cities around the world, and many of the other cities and towns as well.
But just imagine: you can live in the centre of London in your “own” home with all of the facilities that you would expect from a hotel for much less than the cost of a hotel. When we talk about serviced apartments we truly do mean that they are serviced. Obviously, the services will vary, but some have a 24 hour concierge and security service, the very latest TV’s in every room, staff who speak a multitude of languages, luxury furnishings with no expense spared (some would put many hotels to shame!), fully fitted kitchens with every appliance that you could need, king sized beds in the bedrooms, high speed broadband as standard, and a whole lot more.
But not only that, you have the place to yourself and your family. There are apartments to let that have just one double bedroom, while others have as many as four or five and can sleep 10 or 12 guests including children.
Oh, just one thing. There is no bar, and you have to do your own cooking, unless you eat out. But that’s just like it is at home anyway!
